Default TBT: Awesome 1959 Fuelie 283 Corvette

Fuel injection was a hard sell in 1959, but the fuelie Corvettes enjoyed some extra grunt.

My silver blue 59 served me well my last three years of college.

For me the one that got away was my 44K mile 1958 silver blue inca silver cove, silver blue interior 2 top (silver blue power soft top), power window, 4 speed with 290 h.p. F.I. that I sold to a guy in New Zealand in 1985 for $15K--the market at the time. I loved that car and NEVER should have sold it. The car ran like a top and you could always recognize that fuelie whistle as it was driving towards you.

Nice car. Not sure why that one doesn't have 15.5 wheels and dog dish caps if it is a big brake car.

... the "fuelie whistle" is the result of adjusting the airmetering screw and is not a normal noise from a Rochester. still cool tho...

I always LIKED the whistle and I wish I could get mine to whistle. But when it's adjusted just enough to produce a whistle, it won't idle worth a crap.

Bil

btw, there are/were carburetors with an air metering valve that could be adjusted to give the 'whistle'

Noticed several Corvettes throughout the years that had you scratching your head. One was a confirmed factory original 61 fuelie big brake, tanker, in Jewel Blue "very rare", that "did not" have the filler cap protruding through the gas lid door...
