Default Adjusting hedlamp

Hi all,

My left headlight on my 65 Convertible needs adjusting and I dont know how to do it.
The beam points a bit upwards so I have to lower it.

Can anyone help me with this?

Regards

You'll need to remove the headlamp bezel first. The screws to remove are on the sides and bottom. Once Its off you'll see a round head screw for a phillips head screwdriver. There's one at the top and one on the side for adjusting up/down and side to side.

Maybe this will help you visualize the headlamp bezel and adjustment screws. The bezel has the rectangular tabs. So you want to adjust the other phillips head screws. Just turn them on when it's getting dark, shining on the closed garage door or wall, and align the one even with the other.

Redneck adjustment,
Move the car to a level surface and perpendicular to the surface or door, shining on a vertical surface like a garage door about 25 feet or more away. Then turn on the brights and use a yard stick (if they still make them) to find the centerline of the bright bulbs.

Adjust the brights (brightest shine) to the the same elevation as the measurement on the stick.

Also approximate the horizontal direction (perpendicular to the door) from the car. Adjust both sides to the same dimension as the separation of the headlights.

Then again, they used to make a system of stands and mirrors (that the professional mechanics used) to set both the brights and dims.

The dims are set by putting the brights on dim and matching the dim elevation to the same level.

Nothing redneck about it and the adjustment is in every shop manual....my '63 lights were adjusted in that manner.... You just need 25' of level space from a vertical white object..

Ha! I live in Central Florida...if you drive over an ant hill its considered a mountain.
It also helps if its dusk or dawn...the light 'cones' can actually look pretty vague in bright sunshine...

Thanks for your answers.
Sorry for not responding earlier but my work is killing me.
The adjustment I have to do is for the whole "headlight-house".
As you can see on the picture the left headlight is pointing upwards.

That looks more like a bucket "Y" stop issue...you can search for solutions here or look in your shop manual... or go to 2:09 minutes in this video and you'll get the idea...the two big screws are the adjustment:

or 3:20 minutes into this video:

Magnus:

I think Frankie is correct that your bucket is rotating too far up.

You will need to remove the motor for access to the up & down adjustment bolts, which are on the so-called "Y-stop".

The motor is actually pretty easy to remove. It will slide off once the connector, brace and retaining clip are removed.

If it won't slide off easily, you just need to spin the manual thumbwheel on the end of the motor. That will release the friction between motor and bucket shaft. Then the motor comes right out.

If you don't have it-- pick up a copy of the 1963 Corvette Service Manual. Really a necessity.
