[C1] How old were you when you purchased your first corvette?

I had just turned 23 when I purchased this year-old 1961 from a fella at work who was drafted.
I sold it to buy a near-new 63 less than a year later.
I faced the draft myself a few months after that (I was working on my engineering degree and thought I would be exempt from the draft,
but just my luck they ended the "critical skills" exemption 6 weeks before I got my degree, so I joined the Navy).
I still have the 63, which has been a project car for more years than I'd ever admit.

I was 16 and with my Dads help I purchased a new 58 Corvette that was totaled with less than 1500 miles on it. Found a rear clip took us almost 9 months to get it back on the road. Started to drive it, could not afford the insurance, had to sell it to pay for my first year of college. Bought my second Corvette when I was 27 ( 62), still have it 49 years later.

Bought a new 1969 when I was 19. I got tired of waiting for the one I had on order when there was a strike, so I went to every Chevy dealer around the Wash. Beltway until I found what was probably the last new one in the area.

Financially yes but when I started looking for my dream Vette I had no idea how rare of a car I was hunting for. It literally took my 5yrs to find it and I'm talking about some serious hunting. I didn't know this forum existed till after I bought the car. Too bad!
My must have list started with L79 and AC. Had no idea that this combination narrowed it down to less than 400 cars. Then add Marina blue with white interior. Again, no idea I was looking for a handful of cars. Finally found it and bought it over the phone. Paid top dollar for sure but got what I wanted. No regrets at all.

I was 14 in 1972 working at my uncles car lot when a 63 vert shows up as a trade in, I borrowed 700$ and paid a total of $1100 to buy that car. I striped it and painted it getting it road ready for my 16th birthday, in February, in Michigan. It snowed, I was devastated, I had to wait another month before the roads were anywhere near ready for a corvette. I kept that car until 2006 when I sold it to buy another. I have owned a dozen since that young age. Brian

I loved that car but only had it for less than a year because a guy who was in our country illegally ran a stop sign and totaled it, almost killing me. If not for that I'd still have it. Instead, I only have trim pieces, emblems, tail lights, headlights & bezels, and I think the trunk lid in storage. I dreamed about it for many years afterward.

18 in 1972. Bought a 1965 roadster for $1,800, 365, side exhaust, 3.73, knockoffs. Still have it. 44k miles. Have the original motor, trans, soft top, hardtop, well almost everything. Only thing I don't have is the water pump and carb. Will under go a frame off in the next few years.

In 1975, I Looked at my first Vette when I was 17, 68 coupe... Took my 29 year old brother with me for advice. He told me it was a piece of junk. Next day it was sitting in our driveway...he bought it.
A year later I traded my 70 455 GTO for a 68 Roadster that I took to my prom. Month later sold the 68 and bought a splitty....
from there it every couple months...a different Vette, for 4-5 years, Then not so much.

In the fall of 1967, I was a freshman in college. I bought my 1960 Vette for $1100 which was about 90% of my net worth. The car and I are about to celebrate our golden anniversary. I don't drive it much at all any more and every now and the thought crosses my mind about selling it. But then I take it out for a spin and after that decide I'll hang on for another year.
