Default Numbers Help

I bought this Vet 20 years ago and did not know a lot about what to look for.
The car was sold to me as a 365 hp, I soon realized that it probably was not. That was o.k I liked the car and it has been really good to me over the years.

Last 6 of the vin is 115803, April car I believe. This is a Smith bodied car as well. On the lower right bottom of the serial plate under the glove box is a number hand stamped into the plate 11 65. Possibly a del date. seems a long way from an April build to Nov sale, thought that maybe it sat so long because it is also a J61 car.

The number on the d/s of the block by the bell as best I can see it looks like 3782870.

Number on the deck by the water pump F0827HG

The rear end housing indicates AO 4 15 65

Car also has a fulie rad support. But appears to have had some front end fiberglass work at some point, 66 grill as well.

The car is a driver, Im not interested in N.C.R.S. Would just like to know what I have or don't have.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Photos are a couple of posts down.

The good news here is that's a fuelie block with HG suffix which is 65 only. I'm curious about the vin. Can't explain the delivery stamping. Post some pics of the block and tag stampings so we can see whats going on. We all like pictures you know.

There wasn't anything on the trans, that would indicate what the rear axle ratio was. The 3:70 was the standard ratio with the 327/350, but it was also standard with the 327/365, and 327/375 engines. Only the close ratio M-21 trans was available with those three engines, but an assortment of axle ratios was available, with all three of them.

According to the birthday calculator, VIN 15803 was assembled approximately April 22, 1965. For warranty reasons, dealers were supposed to stamp the delivery date on the tag, but it rarely happened.

A car built the end of April, probably arrived at the dealer in early May, so it would have had to have sat on the dealer's lot for 6 months. It's a long time, but not unheard of.

The number on the d/s of the block by the bell as best I can see it looks like 8782870.
A closer check will likely reveal that the number is actually 3782870, not 8782870. The "870" block was used for all 62-65 Corvette 327's, except for a hand full of "180" blocks that were used in 65.

Number on the deck by the water pump matches the serial number with the letters HG at the end.

Car also has a fulie rad support. But appears to have had some front end fiberglass work at some point, 66 grill as well.
"HG" is the suffix code for the 65 fuelie. Normally the core support isn't a good indicator, as all GM service replacement supports, had the cutout for the fuelie air hose, but when combined with the engine stamping, it's a good sign.

A couple other things to check are the tach redline, and the left inner fender skirt. The tach should have a 6500 RPM redline, for a 365 or 375, or 6000 RPM with a 325/350. There may be holes in the left inner skirt, where the FI air cleaner mounted.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
If it was a fuelie, this might explain the 6 months sitting on a dealer's lot. At over $500, the fuelie was an expensive option, especially when compared to the more powerful 396, that was less than $300. The FI had fallen out of favor by 65, and only 771 were sold. The dealer may have had a hard time finding a buyer for a fuelie in late 65.

Try to post a picture of the pad, it's pretty easy to do now. Across the top of the posting block, where all of the icons for "bold", colors, underline, etc, find the yellow box with what looks like a mountain in it. Click on that yellow box, and it will bring up a screen where you can click and drag an image from your desk top, an SD card, etc,. Once it shows 100% loaded, click on "insert", and your image will be inserted into your post. If I can do it, so can you!

Looks like it might be an over the counter block. Bought as probably a complete long block.
