Something You Don't See Everyday - Black and Red L88 Convertible
This car was at the Corvette Club of Marion County show last Saturday.
The guy that owns it is a really nice guy. I talked to him for a fair amount of time. He has had it for several years and he bought it from the guy who also had it for a long time. I can't remember if the previous guy bought it new or not, now.

Real or not nice '67 big block!

Nice looking car, and tons of fun. It has a JE code engine, so really not even pretending to be a real 88 car, but who cares. This car would be more fun, and you would still have a few million in the bank to play with.

Driving Is the key word here. The originals didn't even have a fan shroud and would overheat under 45 mph. The chrome V.C.s are WAY better looking than the orange painted ones hence the vast majority of ALL big blocks back in the day had the over the counter chrome ones. It takes about 15 minutes to change them. If it was mine, it would look the same. And anyone that owns one can have it the way THEY want it.

Just because it has the wrong engine block doesn't mean it is not a real L88. They were race cars after all and how many do you think survived with the original engine? I know nothing of the car but I certainly would not be throwing stones at it.

A while back, I read that about 35 of the original 20 L88's have been accounted for, most with IT engine stamps, and all with ironclad documentation.

The aluminum block engine that was available for them and a few Camaros were available over the counter. So there were engines available if you wanted to go with the BIG option of the silicone aluminum block and heads.
A guy I knew In the Phoenix area had a 73 Corvette he bought new and then ordered one of the silicone aluminum complete engine from Chevrolet in the mid 70s for the car. He then ripped the car apart for the Greenwood big flared fender kit. I was checking the numbers on the engine and found that it was cast in 1969.

Suffix code says it's a L71. I would be more surprised if it's a real black on red car then what engine I came with

That looks sort of like the car Don Sherman built and used as a basis for the book he wrote about restoring Corvettes.

I looked at his Vette, and talked to the owner for a while.
Nice local show, with some interesting cars (but mostly C7s, but interesting never the less). Good excuse to take the 62 out for a drive, and bake in the glorious FL sun for a while (top down).

Pointed out in post 7
I never understand why people don't read all of the posts in a thread before commenting, I do.
Regardless of all of the negative comments about this car, it looks great and I doubt that anyone here would not love to own/drive it.

not jealous at all; I agree it is an impressive vehicle...
but I don't know what it is represented to be; maybe the owner is letting people draw their own conclusions without correcting them. if so, no harm, no foul; but if he is showing it as a L88, shame on him...

Why is everyone so quick to jump to conclusions?
If it happens to be a tribute car so what? The owner is not the one that started the thread and has not commented on it that I know of.
