Default Glassworks Hardtop Restoration?

Just curious has anyone used Glassworks hardtop restorations? I'm thinking about having my 1966 top restored. Thanks.

You can do a search on Glassworks and get some info pretty quick, but If I recall, the reviews for them are good. Not cheap, but good results. What is the extent of the restoration you need done? The reason I ask is if it isn't a total restoration, you may be able to do it yourself.

It is going to need a total restoration. rearwindow, weatherstirpping, new stainless and paint.

Glassworks and AutoEntec are the two premier hardtop restorers.
98% of folks use one or the other. Its a specialized area of restoration for sure.

I used Glassworks for my 62 needing a complete. Matt and the guys do fantastic work. It took awhile, but was worth the wait. Kudos

I bought a 66 hardtop for my 67 from a member on the forum. The top was restored by Glassworks. The quality of the rebuild is fantastic. A+++ all the way. Every screw, stainless trim, the window, latch, paint finish... the thing looks like a jewel from every angle. Cannot image they looked this good when brand new. If yours turned out anything like mine is, you would be extremely pleased with the quality of the restoration.

No that said.. restoration is a 'hands on' endeavor.. And the end product depends on the person doing your actual job and their dedication to detail.

Hope that helps.

Using either of these restorers, do you supply the paint so it matches the body or take what they offer?

Besr if you provide color-matches paint I would think. A simple call to Glassworks would provide the answer.
I've heard their turn around times are way up there so don't be ina hurry

I used them for a full restoration of my 61 hardtop about 4 years ago. Expensive, but done extremely well. As to timing, gave it to them at Carlisle one year, and picked it up there the next year. No big deal as I wasn't in a hurry.

Most of the good shops seem to be taking year.

My wiper motor has been out for over 6 months.

Very few people can do components properly. The few that know what they're doing charge accordingly and are backed up beyond belief.

I used AutoEntec (near Pittsburgh) to do the top on my '63. We had already painted the top while painting the car, so they discounted the cost of painting. They did an absolutely superb job.

I dropped it off at Carlisle and picked it up in the spring at Corvette Expo.

Good luck... GUSTO

Both shops are within spitting distance from each other...the reason is because at one time they were one and the same...the son went one way and the father and wife went the other. I heard the split happened shortly after the Father was killed in a plane accident. They both do excellent work but the old master restorer stayed with the original store so I was told. The son has Glassworks and the wife has AutoEntec.

I used then on a 62 top and it look like show room condition when finished. I sent them my gas door for a paint match and they got it right on the money. Only negative thing I have to say is their shipping/packing is not so great. It was in a big box with what every soft material laying around thrown in. I held my breath when I was removing from box. Luckly it was fine.

On the packing box. I went kinda nuts putting extra sheets of foam when I sent my hardtop, and when I got it back, it didn't have the paranoid amount of extra packing stuff in the box. But it was fine. Matt told me that since they put it on a pallet, that it gets put on the truck last, and they never stack anything on it. I still worry about forks though.

lol... the split happened after some 'marital discourse'; long before father's death

I recently restored a 67 hardtop using Glassworks restoration kit. Parts were very good regarding fit and finish.

Since some of you have used glassworks, what can I expect to pay for replacement of glass and weatherstripping. The glass is only crazed and the weatherstipping has some tears.
