Default Can you ID a piston/rod by the numbers?

I'm tearing down a supposedly new rebuilt 327-350 that's not put together right. Cylinders look like they weren't honed well, and the pistons seem to come out of the block too far and interfere with the heads.

Without pics the numbers are thus:

Con rod has GM on one side at the big end and across from that is "299"
The rod cap has 408? (maybe an A?)

Piston has on the top..... L2166N
and under that has STD and a square with 6T? (faint) the T is very big with the 6 under the left side of it.

Anyone help? thanks.

EDIT: Some con rod info. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ting-rods.html Could the #299 actually be a #399?? See link I included.

I'll have them all out tomorrow but I noticed the two I pulled out had different numbers on the rods????? one had 299 and the other 399? What do those numbers indicate anyway?

Did you read the info I gave you?? These "numbers" are the last three digits of the original GM Part Number. The original full length part numbers are in the info posted/linked.

Thanks Larry, so it stands to reason that they should all have the same last three digits on them. Check this out......they ALL have different numbers on them!
299
337
305
309
309
4D
310
301

Now I'm really scratching my head. The block shows what looks like original broach marks across the top of it but no numbers on the front pad. It's a 352 block.
I'll take a bunch of shots of the block and post 'em up tomorrow for deciphering. Crank looks brand new, so do bearings, cam bearings, cam, etc.
Looks like whoever worked on it wanted to keep it stock bore because he didn't hone it much....not enough in my mind. Pistons are STD. and new.
I'll have to get a micrometer and do some measurements or take it to my machine shop and ask them to figure it out.

L2166 are Speed pro pistons forged stock replacement 327 11:1 compression with 64cc heads, STD, means standard bore, if the block has never been milled before so you say, the block could have been lined bored/honed a lot to raise crank in the block, stock deck height from crank bore center to top of deck is 9.025, (the dome on piston will come out of block)

Ya, I got that about the pistons. BUT....what do all the different numbers on the rods mean? Seems logical to me that they should be a matched set with the same numbers?.....same weight, and length. etc. No?

Is the piston crown perimeter out of the block, or just the dome?

Whole perimeter is visually out of the cylinder on some.....
There's no way it was ever fired up like it was.

If the block is fubarred then there's no point in buying a new set of rods for it, so what I really need is to be able to identify the rods that were in it and check the block out for damaging machine work that would trash the block.
