Hello all,
I am new to the forum and am looking for advice on researching details of my 67 convertible. I have traced ownership back to a company who deals in buying and selling Corvettes. I have contacted them to find out some history on the car. They said they can give me their advertisement when they sold the car (to a fellow I have made contact with) and limited information on the previous owner for a fee. The intent is to find out what the car came with from the factory and which dealership sold it, but it is for my knowledge. It is not my intent to restore to NCRS or Bloomington Gold; it is a driver! Any help steering me in the right direction would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. If you join ncrs, you can get a shipping data report showing what dealer and zone it was shipped to. Have you dropped the gas tank for the tank sticker? Bill Gould with AutoAncestry.com can help for a fee. Hey, we need to see pics of your car.
After getting your shipping report you can contact that City's historical sacioty fotr more information and maybe pics. You can check Facebook for a city or town page of the dealership. Join and ask questions.
I did this and got some good leads, pics and cool memorabilia for my car.
Good luck and be patient it's gonna take time. (took me 25yrs and still looking)
By chance, do you have the warranty booklet with the Protect-o-Plate?
My car had it, which will list the original owner and then you can start your own search for the 1st owner.
Welcome to the Corvette Forum and I hope you can find out the information you are looking for on your car. Personally I think the place who said they would pass on the information for a fee should have his *** kicked. I think I would have told him I will remember not to send anyone to you to buy a car because you are a money hungry AZZ. To me it is all about the fun of owning these American made Sports Cars. It is not about trying to rip someone off. That is my $0.05 worth. I am sure there are plenty on the Forum who will disagree with me but that is OK it would be a sad world if we all thought alike. Anyway, Welcome to the Forum
Hi there! I'm from over in the C3 group but saw this while searching for some information on how to get some of the history on my new (to me) 1981, and it seems to be the most recent thread. The dealer didn't have a lot of information for us, and I've gathered a little bit from the carfax. There is the website for a mechanic who apparently replaced the distributor cap almost exactly three years and 500 miles ago. Would it be inappropriate for me to call and see what they would be willing to tell me about the car? How many owners, if they know anything else about maintenance, etc? Or would that be too weird?

I see no harm in calling. The worst that can happen is that they can't or won't divulge any information about a customer. I recently tracked down and called 2 of the prior owners of my '67 and they were happy to talk to me about the car. One of the prior owners even sent me a USB drive of the pictures he took while performing the frame off restoration of the car. The other prior owner gave me the circumstances of why he replaced the original engine with a service replacement motor in 1977.

I'm not even looking for personal information as much as I'm looking for vehicle information. Personal information would be nice because I'd love to hear firsthand about the car, and lord knows I'd be happy to talk forever to anyone I'd sold my Firebird to. But I realize a business probably wouldn't be comfortable giving out anything more than non-identifying info if anything. I just wondered if it'd be a little weird to call them up and start asking questions about a car they may not have seen in three years.
I've owned my 67 since 1972. Never could find out who the original owner was because the dealer went out of business. Then one day I decided to send my radio out to Jerry Rudbeck for a repair. Wallah! Right there on the Radio was a prior repair order with the first owners name. Good luck in your search. Al W.

Hi, and thanks for the advice! I did join NCRS and got the shipping data report. It came back as shipped to Yarnall-Todd Chevrolet in Chicago, IL. That dealership is now Bill Stasek Chevrolet in Wheeling, IL. The zone and dealer code match up. I contacted them and they said they do not have records that go that far back. I was not surprised. Not quite sure where to go from here.

Hi, unfortunately I don't. I've traced back 4 owners and thats where I'm stuck...

Thanks, Mike! I don't even mind paying something for the help, but I was surprised at how much they wanted to get a copy of the title when they bought the car and a copy of their ad when they sold it. I did get some good information from the gentleman that bought the car from them. Apparently it has the original motor and transmission! I'll just keep looking and taking advice from the good folks on this forum!

Have your tried GOOGLE'ing your VIN? If it was in the ad it might find it.

Thanks. I did google it. I got the information on the owners ad previous to the gentleman I purchased the car from. I had that information, but thank you for the search idea!
