Default 1958 dash insert-install new insert or buy new assembly?

What is the best way to go with these C1 dash inserts? I have nice polished stainless and a nice body that I would install longer studs into to ease installation on the car. I have heard whether accurate or not that these are a PITA to assemble and you risk damaging the flimsy new insert. Anyone have experience with this job?
Thanks

It takes some patience but a dremel cutoff wheel will get the edge trim off then you can epoxy it on the new insert.

Its a pain but doable.

Make sure the channels are cleaned up before you assemble it. Epoxy worked fine for me.

Rather than install longer studs, get couple nut and have someone with a lathe turn it down on one end enough to get in to grab the housing stud and use it to draw the center stud in far enough to get nuts on the other two studs, then remove the coupling nut and install the OEM center nut.

As far as I know, only the aluminum insert is reproduced, no stainless, and not the steel housing.

I've never needed the longer studs and epoxy works fine...
