Default numbers help

I'm trying to figure out whats under the hood. I know its not original, but when I bought the car (a 59) I was told it had a 327 (around the mid 60's). Now that I have it and have had a chance to look at it, I think its a 283. Here are some numbers that I think are right (lots of gunk on them even after a lot of clean up).
Block
3849852
D245
Intake
3840905
GM18
h20 pump
3736493
GM1
Tranny
3834167
A254
GM85
Like I said I think these numbers are right, but can't swear to it. It loooks to me like there is a hodge-podge of stuff.
Any help would be great. Thanks, Ray

Your block is a 57-66 283 from a car or truck.
Pull a valve cover and get the numbers from the heads, also the stamp pad data.

Oh, by the way the block has a casting clock on it, so does that mean its from Saginaw?

Block
3849852
D245

57-65 passenger car or truck 283ci 220hp , casting date is April 24, 1965

My reference says 3849852 intake manifold is for a 2-bbl carb (is yours a 2-bbl???), used in just about every application except Corvette in 1964-65.

Yea, it is a 2bbl. The black pad is stamped F0427WE. The heads have the following numbers 8795898 and D245. :troll
Thanks, Ray

"The heads have the following numbers 8795898"
I don't think that is a valid number. If it really says "3795896" they are 63-67 283 or 327 heads, 1.72/1.5.
The WE suffix is a a 65-67 175 hp C10-C25 truck, manual trans.
You have a 283 truck motor.

So I too have a set of heads like this. The numbers on mine are 3785896 and the other is 3795896. Sorry for the ignorance, but does the one digit difference indicate left and right side, or a mixed set of heads?

I don't think anyone touched on usefulness. If these are mid-60s 327 heads, are they worth using on a 283 Corvette engine? Mine are bare (except for one stuck valve) and I don't want to spend money on a non-original part if another non-original is better and similar in cost. The engine is going to just be for a 1960 reliable driver to run on pump gas. I don't care if the heads aren't correct, just that they are decent equipment. Thanks.
