Default 62 temp guage

I purchased a NOS temp guage with the proper part number but it reads to 240 degrees instead of the original 220. Also, when installed, it reads quite low (gauge 100° = water 180°) Do both 220 and 240 gauges really have the identical part number from AC? Should I chuck the 240 and start over?

When you ground the wire at the temp sensor, does the gauge read full scale?

How early a build is your 62? If later than 2300, the 220 is not correct. Most 62's had 240 gauges.

When I ground it, the needle jumps to 220, not all the way to 240. But it seems to hit 220 fairly hard, as though it hits a stop that isn't visible.

If I recall, it was built in October of 1961 with a VIN 20867S101633

I think that makes it an early model?
