A friend has a 63 corvette convertible and he is trying to install a power steering conversion kit. The engine block is a 3959512. The pulleys at the power steering pump and the water pump do not line up. They are off by about 1/2 inch. I noticed that the timing tab is located about 1/2 inch from the back of the harmonic balancer. I always remembered the timing tab to be located at the very back edge of the balancer. Now, the harmonic balancer could be the wrong one. Since this is an odd block I am not sure what to do to align the pulleys. Could we put a spacer behind the current harmonic balancer; try another harmonic balancer ??? All comments are appreciated.
The 3959512 casting is a service replacement block that should be the same dimensionally as the original 327 that came with that car. I have that same block in my '67.
Are you using a different balancer than was on the car before you started the PS conversion? If so, it could be the wrong balancer as Nowhere Man said. Is the balancer completely seated on the flange on the crank?
