Was wondering if anyone has info on Zaino wax. Three years ago I applied 3 coats of the Zaino on my 63 and since then have never washed the car. Only used the Zaino detailer. It still shines very nice but I want to put on some fresh Zaino. Should I remove the old wax or is it OK to just add a couple coats over the older wax? thanks,Lonzoo
I'd read the container, I'm sure it'll tell you what to do...
Never used Zaino but there are some absolute zealots for the product on here....
I generally wash car and clay bar with some spray detailer before a thorough waxing (occasionally light buffing with McGuire's Ultra-Glaze) and that seems to work just fine....I don't attempt to remove old wax -- not sure that wax even gets old...

If you post in the 'car care' section, you will get a ton of answers.
I'm a zaino user for the past 20 years.. zealot? Maybe?
My advise would be to follow their "initial application" process.. Where you wash your car with dish soap. It's not recommended to use all the time, but rather for a preparation of the surface, as it's very good at dissolving oils.
Their website has a lot of info. Or you can email Sal Zaino.. he responds!

My thought, what makes you think the wax you applied 3 years ago has diminished if the car has never seen the elements or been washed?

They say to use "Dawn" specifically. It has a high alkaline content and will easily strip off old wax.
I didn't know this and, had been using it to wash my vehicles for years!
Small wonder why I was constantly re-waxing them.
To answer the OP's question, you don't need to strip, just wax.

It doesn't have time to get old since it evaporates off the car and what remains washes off. Most car wax is full of distillates, That's how waxes and glazes work, fill the micro-scratches temporarily and look great for a while.
Claying a car removes any wax and is probably the best way to remove a wax buildup, if that's possible. Based on what I see going on in auto parts store parking lots I guess it must be.
If you have contaminated paint you should wash it with Dawn and then clay it, polish it and wax it. Too much wax makes a mess, your upper body sore and the wax people rich.
We need a really GOOD polymer coating to replace all of this high $$ wax that is sold to everyone.
Wax melts at a relatively low temp. Your car sitting in the sun for any length of time will see it melt away and disappear. If your car is garaged all of the time during the day and you only drive it at night wax will work wonderfully for you.
Living in AZ. with the intense sun wax does not last long as evidenced by washing your car and it no longer beads water.

I checked it out and from what it looks like, it is likely another deal like the old Polyglycoat of the 60s-80s. If you remember it, they set it up through dealers or aftermarket detailers that charged big $$s to apply it. The company filed BK due to multiple claims that it eventually damaged paint.

EDIT: Ooops, maybe you are talking about Nonocoatings?
Not Zaino.
He's been a 1-man show for over 25 years.
You can buy product direct from his web site.
All I'll say is it's good stuff.. I've used it on my C5 since new, and at 19 years old, the car still looks new.

Zaino makes a Clear Sealant that gives a wet looking shine. You apply it to a clean car and let it cure. No buffing. Then top it with their Z8 quick detailer
I dunno, I bet some here spend $100 in goo and 6 hours in labor to take their car out on a Saturday...
My WORST case is a good wash, maybe a quick buff, and, Zymol wax (no particular reason, just like the way it goes on). Maybe twice a year a clay bar session -- MAYBE...

I use spray wax after a wash. After a couple of days you can't tell the difference. Waxing a car used to be good therapy, but now that I got it figured out, no more.
Just finished doing this. Getting ready to trip and hadn't wax'd her sine Woodward Dream Cruise. Clay barred her then gave her a coat of carnuba wax. Boy does she "pop"! AND she's as slick as a baby's **s!
