I read that some automotive magazine suggested banning the next generation of Demon because of the alleged 880hp output.... Supposedly they'll make 3,000 of them. I'm sure the dot-com billionaires and oil sheiks have them all spoken for...
I don't understand the fascination of burnouts. I think they are stupid. Other than for drag racers who want to warm up their tires, any other type of performance driving would suggest that you would NEVER want to see the tires burning rubber. Keeping the tires firmly planted on the ground should be the ultimate goal, not seeing them go up in smoke.
I wonder what the insurance for one of those is going to run. Back in the early 70s the insurance companies would have run something like that out of the market with outrageous insurance rates.

i also read that the Demon is banned from NHRA events as delivered from the factory. Needs a roll bar/cage and maybe some other stuff to qualify.
Also read that the Demon comes standard with only a driver's seat but the front passenger seat and rear seats are available as options for $1.
Id love to have a Hellcat but I have no desire to own a Demon. Can't even imagine how much insurance would cost - on either one.

Yep. And the manufacturer would under rate them to something laughable.

Hellcats are awesome cars. A friend of mine has one and it's an absolute monster; tons of power everywhere and it handles reasonably well for such a heavy car. I've driven it a good bit and even took my kids out for a few 0-whatever mph blasts through the gears.
The supercharger whine is intoxicating and the car has a unique presence, but I would go broke buying tires and likely lose my license because it begs to be hooned...
I'm not in the market for one, but am glad they exist.
"Hagerty makes some history of its own: Dodge has appointed Hagerty as the official insurer for the Demon, the first time Hagerty has established such an association for a brand-new production car."
Hellcats are awesome, and the insurance is plenty affordable even for a (relatively) young guy like me. It's the only new car that even comes close to captivating my attention like my L-71 does, and I plan to order one very soon.
The Hellcats at my Dodge dealer were in the $78k to $83k range. And as soon as you plunk down your money the new Demon makes it a wanna and I'd buy another classic first. But that's just my opinion.

As a Corvette guy you can pick up a C7 Z06 that will beat the Hellcat in that same price range. Or you can get another nice classic to replace your 61 for that kind of money!.
I have a 2005 Mustang I put a stroker short block in along with a Whipple twin screw blower, twin disc Mcleod and it makes about 700hp. 597 hp to the wheels. The car is about 3500 lbs and I don't like doing burnouts in it because the drag radials are about $360 per. It is extremely intoxicating to drive. Mid 10's car and the wife never complains when I lash out once in a while.
OMG! I'll bet most of you guys trashing these cars and the owners doing burnouts were doing the same damn thing when you were in your teens and twenties! I know I did and I gotta say, I still light up my tires once in a while just for the sheer joy of it
I usually will do something like while in 2nd gear throw the clutch pedal down and dump it and lean hard on the throttle for a second or 2, but I'm not making a smoke screen in my blown stang. I wouldn't do a burnout in the Vette. I learned my lesson at 17 years old blowing out 3 different cluster gears in the M21 in my '67 Camaro. Pops taught me early how to do the Muncies. They are weak transmissions.
