the auto electric shop I bought it from poraized the regulator for me and tested the new generator and voltage reg together with the pulley that I had them put on.
OK, that's great. Just didn't want you to overlook a small but very necessary detail, especially when you said it wasn't charging after you had replaced the generator.

You don't polarize the regulator, you polarize the generator but it's done at the regulator and should be performed with everything installed in the car.
If you haven't already done it the very FIRST thing you should do is install a 30 amp ATC, blade type fuse in the black wire going to the ammeter behind the dash.
It'll protect 95% of the car's circuitry from damage.
