I posted a while back about a loud thump upon hard acceleration or rapid d.e-celeration. I recently decided I was going to find the problem. Put the car on jackstands and checked u-bolts. Checked possible backlash problem. Checked rear cross-member bushings and every other bushing I could find. Found nothing but did same routine a few days later to make sure I didn't miss anything and again nothing. I then decided to take driveshaft out to check snubber bushing. Upon taking front mount off (bolts were tight) i found the front 2 bolt holes elongated to about 9/16. I was relieved to find this but found out that new ones are available. So i reinstalled and put small collars the same size as the bolt and scribed them on the mount. Removed the mount and welded the collars on and it fits like a glove. Drive super quiet now and will never have that problem again. Just wanted to share in case someone runs into this problem...Check those bolts and bolt holes and keep them tight!!!!!!
You can buy those brackets reinforced almost anywhere; I have one on the shelf (like in the first picture) in case my soup-can-thin original on the '63 (like in the last picture) gets wallowed out... The TSB provided outlines the procedure you basically used by instinct..
