[C1] 1958 trunk question

1958 trunk question
There are openings on both sides in the floor of my trunk that I can see the shackles. Should they be there and if so are there plates to cover them.

There should be plates there. They're called access panels. There are a number of them. The originals are metal.

Yes there should be access covers.
I believe early 58 used metal and sometime throughout the year they changed to fiberglass

Mine are fiberglass. odd shapes. I can send copy of pattern if i knew how!

Mine are also fiberglass. Basically flat sheets (press-molded) cut to fit the inside profile of the rear fenders. The are held in place with oval head Philip screws. My car is from early January 1958. Hope that helps

Yes, 59-60 did not use them. I think in the later part of 58 production they were eliminated.
