Default 60 Shifter Boot

I seem to recall reading about using an alternative shifter boot other than the standard rubber one. Seems like they modified and used a fabric one from a Toyota or some other car. I've searched the forum but no luck.

Any one with some ideas. I find that the rubber ones are difficult to retain and keep in place.

Thanks

I used a 1978 Volvo shifter boot: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1573120326

It worked better with the extended hypodermic needle repro shifter supplied with my Tremec. Just cut around the base of the boot a bit and contact cemented it to the shifter console. Worked for 6 years and was in the car when I sold it last summer and looked pristine.

Read farther down in that thread and you'll see the rubber grommet I added at the top to give it a more finished look..

I have a 60 that I drive every day and the best shift boots I have found comes from Rock Auto, the one in it now is over 2 years old and is still good, and cost less than $15.00. Until I discovered these boots I was buying them from the major suppliers and replacing them much more often and was paying $20.00+ for them if I remember correctly.

A slight trim on a Hurst Boot works and is very close looking to the original

I bought a new on from CC looks the same as the one from Rock Auto. However mine does not center and it puts pressure on the shifter enough to make it pop out of 2nd and 4th. I am going to have to work on it.

Yes, same thing for me. RockAuto has much better quality than the Vette suppliers.

Just to expand on my shifter boot approach. When Keisler offered their Perfect Fit 5-speed OD Tremec offering as a package it came with a fake C1 hypodermic needle shifter. However, it was one inch taller than stock. This meant an original boot was stretched a bit to accommodate things. My original and the two repros I put it in ripped very quickly. Hence I went with the Volvo boot with the extra accordion layers.

It worked superbly and looked good too. If you have a different shifter handle setup other solutions may suffice.
