Default Please identify this shock/spring combo...

Guys,
I have begun yanking apart the 1965 coupe and was wondering what the heck my Dad was trying to accomplish with these rear shocks? The suspension setup so far was a 9leaf spring and these bad boys...

Any thoughts, I do have them off the car and can get a better shot if needed.

Thanks in advance,
John

From what I remember these were aftermarket "load levelers". I would toss them in the recycle bin.

They were headed to storage with the other "original" parts, but I can always make a detour to the ol' can of no-return.

Thanks,
John

John, those bad-boys look like aftermarket bolt on over-load/ helper
springs. In my youth I installed several sets on different cars to get
the back end up for bigger tires.Made for horrible ride, but the big
tires fit. Good luck on the 65. My 65 is about 90% done (still driving)
only awaiting new interior. What color/interior/engine/trans/etc
are you working on?

Actually, that car was bought in Michigan in 1967 and used in Michigan until about 1978 (daily driver for about 5 years). In 1978 the car was put into a garage and stored until my Dad had time to retrieve and restore. Unfortunately that time never came, but now the Vette will lead a nice warm life here in the great state of Texas.

Thanks for the info,
John

Having lived briefly in Texas, I can tell you Texas has every kind of weather known to man (the day I left, Dallas was encased in clear ice). That includes lots of floods. Even in Texas there are plenty of opportunities for cars to rust.
