'Vault Find' 1967 Corvette 427 Auctioned for $675,000
All-original, manicured L71 finds new home at Mecum auction, but it'll be tough to surpass its first home.

My five year son and I saw it roll off the auction block in Indy, extremely nice car to say the least. A local car collector from Carmel, IN bought it for his private collection per the Indy Star. Congrats to the new owner.

I was there also and it was a touching moment when it sold. Just before it sold they lowered the lights and played taps and everyone in the place stood and all men took off there hats. Pretty touching for the family I am sure.

Thanks, he and Jackie have had a great collection of Corvettes over the years. I hope this one sees the light of day so the public can enjoy it.

That's great, I have always wanted to go to BG, but it is so far away, too difficult to trailer cars to.

It's too bad that the car was barely enjoyed by the family. I have my late brother's '66 big block convertible that he bought new, now with 90k miles, NCRS Top Flight and completely original except for one repaint. It was a daily driver in it's early years, a stop light racer, and looks like the day it left the showroom. Plenty of great memories of it on the road, not up on carpeted jack stands.

I have a very original and very nice 69 big block but I still try to put 500 miles or so on it a summer. They were built to drive and back in the day I beat the crap out of them. Not anymore of course

I'll bet they only enjoy that enormously expensive car by looking at it and trailering it to be on display. I once owned a super low mileage '78 Pace Car (63 miles) that I bought out of the original dealer's showroom in 2005, where it sat since new. It pained me to see that odometer roll to every show, where the car was very well known. After 2 years, and 2,200 miles on it, I just had to sell it.

My question is the new owner going to tittle it in his name and lose the one owner. After all that is the big draw on this car besides the low miles. And if he doesn't tittle it he also can't campaign it through NCRS.

Many of these big collectors do not title and register the cars in their names. I have bought a couple of very low mile Corvettes that the collectors did not. I was glad, since then I could be the second owner. I doubt this collector has any intention of putting this car into any judging anywhere, most likely only downside in that.

Had to resurrect this to update. The vault car just sold at Kissimmee Mecum (2022) for $418,000 by the guy (Runyon) who bought it in 2017 for $675,000. A mere $257,000 loss it seems. But, Runyon's collection was being sold, so maybe working on averages?

Ouch. That's a big hit in value.
