What can be done to prevent this. I've owned this car since 1983 and this is the first time I've had a mouse in my car. I want this to be the last. Someone said they do not like the smell of mothballs ?
Also I always park my car with the hardtop off except during winter storage.
Anyone else have any tips on keeping these critters aways ?
There was a mouse poison in a yellow container shaped like a pint milk carton. I think it was called Decon, it's been so long since I used this stuff that I have no idea if you can still buy it. Should solve your problem if you can find it.
I use decon up at my hunting camp. I don't think I would want to use it for my car. The mice might die inside the car, which would not be good.
It also seems that the mice get use to it and it starts to lose it's ability to kill them. They sort of become immune. I have found the little blue-green poison pellts everywhere in my camp. I wouldn't want that in my car.
For a car, I think I would want something to keep the mice away totally. Have heard charcoal, mothballs etc. work, although I have not used them. Classic
yeah, decon lets them crawl off and die in your walls or in your car somewhere, you dont want to be smelling that. I would go with something like the traditional trap or the heavy duty adhesive mats.
i just thought that you could have our cat, please!
My IL rodents just toss the moth ***** aside. Cheap plastic live traps work. The little monsters filled the A-C blower "squirrel cage" on my 66 with fiberglass insulation once, did the same to my wifes Toyota twice, and filled the air filter element box of my Venture van with bird seed shells - until I used the traps.

Re: Rodents (kenmo)
There's a device called a Glue Board, I think it's under the Tom Cat brand name. It's about the size of a license tag and is very very gummy. It'll snare even the Chicago monsters if properly baited with something they like.
My wife won't let me get them anymore though, claims they're too cruel.......I'll just leave it at that.
Regular old mouse trap baited with just a dab of peanut butter will probably do the trick for you. Set it on a piece of card
board of something so you don't get any peanut butter on your car and attract more. Would set a few in the garage also.
Where there is one there will be more then one. they like company. Good luck and good hunting. They can do more
damage then can be imagined. Jimbo64 [have heard the sticky boards work also but have never tried]
There was a similar question on the Z06 Forum last week. I recommended mouse traps and bait. Then some guy then warned the original poster NOT to install traps/bait as they would attract rodents to the garage.
I don't know where guys come up with this kind of logic - or I should probably say illogic!
I use the old style trap with one modification. Tie a piece of string in a loop on the trigger and put the peanut butter over it. Before I used the string I would find the trap still set and the peanut butter gone. I don't like to kill them but it's the only way to keep them out. The glue boards do sound too cruel.
I was also told to put a bar of Irish Spring Soap in the car and this seems to help for some reason.

Re: Rodents (kenmo)
How about leaving the little critter a nice little dish of good old Antifrezz..
It's nice and sweet tasting and would probably last thrugh the winter. This way after he drinks it he might mosey on out for a little walk and kick the bucket...
Do you trap flies with fly paper ? Or is that too cruel ? ... we are talking about vermin, animals that spread disease, sickness, cause distruction to our buildings, vehicles. I think what they do to us (hunta virus, black plague, $$$ in damages) is far more cruel.
Now if we were talking about hurting kittens, puppies or ponies I would understand the rationale but NOT when it comes to these vermin.....(mice, rats, rodents)

Oh, they work alright, especially when baited with something irresistible like a piece of Slim Jim sausage or pepperoni. The "problem" then is, now you've got this live helpless rat looking up at you and it's your move. Again, I'll leave it at that.
Also.......you'd have to be very careful handling this stuff because a little-dab'l-do-ya. Get some of it on you and it's a mess, takes fingernail polish remover, etc to get off, and don't get it anywhere near the Vette's upholstery :smash:
I spoiled a date in college over a mouse. the girls had one in the dorm and I trapped him between a pile of books and the wall. I asked the girls what to do & they gave the thumbs down. A good kick to the books settled the issue but the girls suddenly found my methods a bit too harsh :nono: ...

Re: Rodents (achapman)
Andy, The Antifreez is a proven method. It works. I got rid of a bunch of the little Bast-Turds that moved into my garage when I first moved into my house. And No Fur Coats........................... :jester
