Okay, how many of you knowledgable folks are sitting around your computers this weekend? I just got my '66 out of the paint shop and was driving it home when it stalled on me. It would start after sitting for a few minutes. I could see in the "aftermarket" clear fuel filter between the pump and the carb that it wasn't pumping fuel. I nursed it home at slow speeds and with low rpms. I checked for a filter before the pump but could not locate one. I removed the hose before the pump and the fuel flowed out. I then ordered a new pump and removed the old pump. While I'm waiting for this new pump to arrive, is there anything else I could be checking for that would cause this problem? I did take apart the old pump and found what appeared to be a little water in with the gas. The pump appears to work off of the car.
I would go ahead and blow out the fuel lines, while I had the pump off. And check the gas tank for any debris. More than likely, it is just the rubber piece ( I can't spell diafram  ) in the pump ?
Sounds like the "exact" same problem early this summer i had with my 56.
put 2x4 carbs on the car and put new fuel lines, glass filter, and linkage.
Car would do the same exact thing. I put (count them)! 5 new fuel pumps on the car. took all the fuel lines apart and blew high p[ressure air thru them and even changed the tank with a new one! Still did the same thing. would sputter and quit at anything over idel when driving. Found the problem to be the "new" fuel filter (glass unit) i bought from corvette central. It was a manufactuurer defect. They hadn't drilled the entrance and exit all the way thrugh. The hole was the size of a pin hole!!! I drilled it out and has been running fine every sense!!.
Thanks for the replies. I installed the new fuel pump and I'm back on the road again. Would you folks up there in Wisconsin and Michigan hurry up and paint those trees their fall colors. I'm on my way up! :D :D
