I can't see an advantage as long as what you have now works. A lot of people, myself included, still run the separate voltage regulator but upgraded to the electronic Wells VR715 regulator.
The 10SI and 12SI Delco Alternators can be bought with higher amperage output ratings which will handle transient loads better. Both have internal regulation. There are many choices for regulators for this series alternator. They are also easy to wire and are very reliable units. If I were choosing a bigger/better alternator, I'd pick the 10SI.
But the 10DN series (that what you have stock) is still a good alternator. It can be upgraded internally with a better rotor and stator to increase its output. If you have a good working charging system, I'd leave it alone unless you are trying to run some crazy high loads in the car.
My stock 63 alternator has been internally upgraded to provide 70 amps output with the Wells VR-715 solid state external regulator. Most any rebuild shop can do it.
