Is there any difference between, for instance, the Autozone Duralast VR715 @ about $20 and a NAPA Echlin VR142 @ about $80?

Get the VR-715; I see it working on cars with 125 amp alternators. Everybody on here and some other hot rod forums that I know that went SS goes with the 715...why do you think you need anything different ?

I just call Wells- the lady (Joan) there checked and said the do make, not outsource, the VR715 for Autozone. It's what I just put on- at $22 I'll buy a backup.

Have the Wells VR 715 on the 68RS and has been functioning good for 10 years or more. Have a spare I bought but yet to use. Also found one in my junk stash along with 4 or 5 mechanical units, that I wouldn't have saved unless it was good

Wells VR715 here, too. Never any problems. 100 amp alternator.
