you should be able to do it by mouth..., it doesn't need to be for a long time
but, you can buy an inexpensive hand pump from Harbor Freight; I recommend the Mity Vac as being better quality, but the cheaper should serve your purpose. look for their 20% off coupons

When I had my 62 injector car what I did when there was a problem I could not find I had a cheap 2 barrel carburetor and intake that I would put on. If the car ran fine then I would know for sure it was the fulie. I would take his warning about not working on it with a grain of salt. You should buy a FI manual and study how it works. Plugged lines and things like that you can fix. They have less parts then a rochester carburetor. Your not going to hurt it.

it is the most expensive 'carburetor' you will ever own... it can be done, but proceed at your own risk....

I have no idea what hose you're sucking on or what solenoid valve you're talking about.

MikeM your post 26 told me how to create a vacuum I did it orally like you said ran the drill on the pump like you said gas came out of the injectors so if it comes out of the injectors that means it's not dirt clogging the screen i think. But what could be the problem could it be what Jerry said. I'm confused by the comment that you don't know what I am talking about.

Jerry when this started I was driving down the road about 45 mph and it just completely stopped like I turned the key off and the engine was 180 degrees could that be caused by the cold enrichment mechanism?

I think I make one too many cooks in this kitchen, so I'm going to shut my piehole now.

something 'funky' going on here... IF the distributor drives the pump like the drill does, then it should run....
you say it only runs for a few seconds when started normally.... try starting and maintaining a vacuum like you did and see if it continues to run.... maybe the problem is in the idle circuit (although that doesn't explain why it died going down the road.....)

Got it fixed. I took the tee off the top of the diaphragm and put a nipple there and kept vacuum on it like Bill said to and it started but was running very rough and I had to keep adding vacuum. Is that diaphragm suppose to leak off?? Anyway checked the timing because it was running so rough and it was so advanced the groove on the balancer was on the passenger side of the car when the light hit . So I brought it back to 6 degrees put it back together sounds great again that clamp on the distributor wasn't very tight so it must have turned when I was driving it and that was the start of my problem.Does anyone know what I should set the dwell at? Just wanted to also say thanks for all the help and support I would have never been able to get this thing running with out you guys. So thanks again Zano

dwell should be 30
and, no, vacuum should not bleed off the diaphragm; especially as you replaced the tee with an elbow. BUT you were doing the vacuum by mouth and I doubt that would be consistent/constant..... I hesitate to tell you to take the cover off and check for wear/hole as you should have a new gasket and diaphragm available.
how does it run/drive?
