Default Vent regulators working backwards?

Ugh. I thought I could button up the driver's door today - door panel, all of it.

I got it fitted on and noticed the vent window seemed jammed. I'd installed it a couple weeks ago and adjusted it today so I figured I tweaked it or something.

Took the door panel off again and figured out it was not only jammed - it appeared to be working backwards. (or not working - it doesn't go backwards).

Now I've pulled the vent windows off again - I thought maybe I got some of the parts mixed left to right.

Nope - the parts won't fit left to right. They can only go one way.

What seems to be happening is that the regulators are working backwards. In other words, when you turn it to open the window it's already cranked to its limit. If you turn it the other way, the vent window tries to open the wrong way - which it can't because of the weatherstripping and design.

What am I missing here?

I bought a new regulator for the passenger side and kept the driver's side which sort of worked before but the retainer plate had come off (someone drilled and screwed it in the past - the screws had fallen out - easy fix).

I thought maybe I had the regulators swapped. Nope they don't swap either.

I also figured out my DIY door panels (I'd rather spend $800 on new side exhaust) are too thick. Back to the drawing board there.

Sigh. What's up with the backwards vent windows? Help me figure this out!

I can take pics and shoot video if that helps.

If the retainer plate was drilled for screws the regulator has likely been rebuilt, and, I don't know what "sort of worked" means. I'm betting if you open the regulators up they've been assembled incorrectly. The attached article describes the rebuild process.

A more accurate thread title will get you more responses...how is anybody supposed to know you are asking about regulators ?

One is brand new and it appears to be backwards too. I'm betting there is something else going on. I'll check out that PDF. Thanks.
