Default c2 LED Headlight recommendation

I've read a few threads about this but they all get closed with no info. regarding recommended vendors. Can anyone please PM me what brand you've used and if you're happy with them?
Thanks in advance.

I looked recently and could not find any led head lights that are a direct bolt in for a c2.

Look at Marchal, Hella and Cibie. I put Hella low beam 55watt 35-40 years ago. Never had one burn out yet, much better lighting. Dennis

The Halogens won't tax your stock electrical wiring and are bright enough for me with the little bit of night driving I do... I also wasn't aware of any direct fit LED options..

This appears to what you have to do to install LED headlights, the article is for replaceable bulb halogens, but the LEDS are also long in back due to the heat sink/heat radiator and would need the same modifications. I am not familiar with how much room is in the C2 headlight buckets, YMMV..

Sealer beam Halogens should drop right in.

Sylvania H5001 and H5006 Halogens (if I remember the numbers correctly) are plug-and-play -- no mods required.

Thanks for the replies. I'm (my customer) is interested in LED headlights. They will not be drop in replacements as noted above and could (should) be even brighter than Halogens and draw less power (not that it matters much). Has anyone actually installed LEDs and what do you think of the performance?

Hi Ken, I have installed and am using one LED headlight in a 63. I also have a Halogen bulb on the other side. I have found that the LED is brighter and focused better than the Halogen, so I'll install the LED on the other side too, when I get a chance. I got the LED on Amazon, its a "Daymaker", intended for a Harley, but I don't really know the manufacturer. Here's a pic of the LED versus the original bulb and the bulb dimensions.

The 63 installation requires substantial modification of the fins on the back of the bulb (the pic below shows an early iteration of the fin mods, as well as modification of the adjustment can that it sits). Note that 63 cars are different in that they have an additional bracket inside the lamp enclosure that is not found in later c2s. That 63-only bracket caused the interference that required the fin modification. I'm not sure that much, if any, fin modification would be necessary on later C2s.

I hope that helps,

Mike

I have Oracle led headlights #6913-001 in my 63 conv. the difference is incredible they are not plug & play, they require the same modifications as Tom's in post #8. I have a set set sitting on my bench to install in my 63 coupe. The yellow high beams in the last picture are halogen H5006's notice how yellow they look I'm going to just unplug them they really don't do anything.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like the warranty is voided after cutting the cooling fins off. I guess either cut the fins or the cup.

DON'T DO IT!!!

Some of these new lights are blinding to oncoming traffic. You don't want someone running into you because YOUR lights are too bright for them to see.

sheet... oem HD lights as installed in new cars will blind you if they are not properly aimed; if done properly, I don't see this as a problem.

How many places/people do you think have the equipment to do this on these old cars today?

I've just received one of these bulbs, that I think can be installed without any fin modification:

I'll still have modify the can below, but that's not that difficult.

Stay tuned...

Actually, it's not that complicated or difficult. If you take your time and have patience, you can do a pretty good job at home following one of the procedures like the one in the pdf file below. Just buy yourself some new plastic adjuster stand-offs, like in the pic below. If yours are 50 years old, you'll probably break a few.

Great write up and pics! Do you have a final installation pic in the car? Do you still like them? Any issues? I like your solution and will probably do the same.

Thanks

I'm still waiting on long lead items (specifically engine parts), so the front end is not together.

That said, I still like 'em. I have a '67 Chevelle that I'm putting together and am going to figure out how it will work on there (an LT4 is going in there and DeWitt's is pulling together the cooling "stack", along with other space consumers).

The thing with the Chevelle is that I want to do something like the 2015 Challenger Hellcat headlight setup and this style of light will work well with that.

FWIW...

I was just about to purchase the Daymaker lights but then read some reviews from the Harley guys about LED headlights in general not illuminating the side areas of the road. Thus creating the issue of not seeing the road when turning. What has anyone'e experience been with this issue and LED headlights? Also, are you guys using the same headlight for both the low beam and high beam?
