You can go HP or Dominator ECU from Holley depending on what you want to do. I'm running drive by wire CNP and two stage injectors in a screw blown BBC, if I'd ditched the drive by wire I could probably have gotten away with the HP. But not huge difference in price and the Dominator has a zillion tuning possibilities. As everyone has said another plus is the Holley forum is great.

Do you know if a 70's GM drop base Corvette air cleaner would fit on a set up like yours.
I'm not sure how much clearance for the fuel rails and throttle linkage is needed with a efi.
Billy Dawson's frame/chassis motor mounts are 2" lower than stock.
Thanks..Stan
Stan:
My setup uses a drop base air cleaner, not GM but it "drops" about 1.75". I was concerned about clearance problems with my conversion from the 850 CFM Demon carb, but with the new Holley intake manifold and their throttle body there was less than 0.1" difference in overall height. In the picture below the aluminum pan and gasket fits up against an operational hood scoop, keeps the engine heat out of the intake.

Thanks Charles...that's a darn nice set up!!
I'm not sure about the big block and small block engine height on Billy chassis.
Do you have stock motor mounts? ..if so the Holley efi like yours should clear on a sbc too..I would think??
Thanks...Stan

Default Bits and pieces

Stan,

The Rochester unit is only modified by reaming the injector bores .031 larger. The sensor suite and throttle body are LS1 compatible bits, the injectors are Magnetti Marelli. The fuel and air plumbing is custom. The wiring harness is modified Holley to allow for firewall circular connectors, the ECU is a Holly HP.

Thanks for the formula...
It sure did work out beautifully!
I really like the look of that type of FI unit...and the upgrades make the icing on the cake.
Very Nice!...Stan

Here's another vote for the Holley EFI. I've had the Dominator system for quite a few years now. I started with the 4500 throttle body and their intake. Then when I moved to turbo's, I built an intake using an 8-71 blower base and a fabricated plenum. To convert, I just need a new MAP sensor for boost and to download a base tune to get started.

It does self tune pretty darn well for full power as well as driveability. I've installed several of their systems on everything from 500 HP small blocks to 1000 HP N/A combos. Mine makes 1350-1400HP at the crank these days and drives fantastic.

I'm also using Holley's DIS ignition and crank trigger system. I have the coils hidden under the dash inside the car and use MSD "pass-throughs" to get plug wires to engine. I use an MSD drive to run the oil pump...no distributor.

There are cheaper ones out there, but I can guarantee you the Holley will work as intended.

Jim
Definitely some serious stuff here!
Thanks for the post and the thumbs up for the Holley Dominator fuel injection.
I don't believe there could be a stronger endorsement of any product...or more hands on evidence to support the endorsement.
GREAT..
This is better than any performance magazine "efi shoot out"...the cream seems to naturally rise to the top this way!
Thanks again for the help.
...Stan

By the way.. Do you run an air cleaner on the bottom pictured engine? If so do you have pic of that... I'm referencing any possible issues with hood clearance?

no magic here; just a lot of blood, sweat and tears...

Morning Bill..
Great pic...and thanks for the post.
I always loved what you did to retrofit your fi to efi..good job!!
What ecm did you choose for your conversion?
...Stan

...and yeah, the blood, sweat and tears is what I'm dreading if I redo my engine combination!! ..especially the efi part.

Stan
way back (almost 10 years now...) when I did mine about the only State of the Art ECM available was the ACCEL Gen 7, which by today's standard is VERY rudimentary; none of this 'self tuning", it all had to be done by trial and error... AND it is now a 'relic' and no longer supported by anyone... there were times I would have probably jumped off a high building if I could have found one...

you will certain still have the blood & sweat no matter what you choose (unless you have someone else do it...) but the tears have pretty much dried up nowadays.

Bill

Thanks Bill
There's always the blood and sweat I guess...Glad to hear the tears aren't so prevalent though.

Some times I think I should give in and go over to the "dark side" as Frankie called it..(the LS engine/transmission/ecm complete packages). They are such a "no brainer"... just throw out the cash and stick the whole shebang in the hole.

I already have everything else that is required to do the job. Wiring, Spal fan, Be Kool LS plumbed radiator, etc.

But nooo...that would be too easy....just not enough B,S and T's..
Stan..

Stan...
I looked at the date stamp on the picture I posted and it was May, 2008...

even at this late date, I wish I could find someone to refine my EFI tune but I don't know anyone I can trust or maybe even afford...

10-4 Bill..
That's what I'm trying to get a handle on.
These knowledgeable EFI guys seem to take pieces from different apps and make them do what ever they want.
Maybe you could get a tip or two from one of them....or maybe someone will chime in.
You've already done the hard part I would think? (probably wasn't the hard part back then though..)
Maybe you could just upgrade to a self learning ecm. Wouldn't you be good to go then, with out breaking the bank?
