Default '64 new p/s control valve leak at fittings

Today I installed a new p/s control valve and hose kit. Flushed out the sys. until the fluid ran clear. Fired it up and now have leaks around both fittings attached to the slave cyl. Loosened and tightened the fittings in an attempt to reseat the flare with no luck. Also have a leak around what looks like a ball bearing on the outside of the valve. Inspected all the hose flares and they looked great. Has anyone had this problem and what is the function of that ball bearing ? Thanks, D.

One of the hose fittings can feel like it is bottomed out but actually the wrench can be hitting something else giving the feeling of being tight. Hard to put into words but I'd bet one of the fittings is not really seated.

Dave,
Do you recommend snugging these fittings down, backing them off and, then, snugging again...kinda like a stainless fitting?

Thanks for the quick reply. I made sure that was not happening as I backed off and re-tightened both fittings. The new hoses were a tad shorter than the old ones and were really tough to start the threads, tough day all around.

Yeah, I tried that to try to reseat the flare but was careful not to over tighten and crack the flare. What is puzzling is the old hoses didn't leak. This is a new one for me. Rats !

After sleeping on it, I think the two new valve to cylinder hoses were manufactured a hair too short and are not bottoming out to provide a good seal . These will be returned for refund. Can someone recommend a vendor who can provide hoses that are known to be the correct length ? Thanks, Dave.

This was discussed here a few months ago. Search and see if you can find it.

Just went through 491 Forum threads and someone recommended anti-seize on the threads and re- seat a few times. If that fails, it's new hoses from GM or Gates.

CSSB hoses were recommended, as well as Gates, and Long Island's.

Thanks for your reply. Will call the CSSB tech., the SS braided hoses should provide more flexibility.
