Default Help with Engine #

A friend bought a 64 Corvette and he knows it is not a # matching car but asked me what the motor belonged to. I don't have a book on engine # so could one of you let me know what he has so I can tell him.

G 7 4 The G I am guessing on, that is what it looks like.
Stamp Pad is kind of hard to read
9F 0 709RB again the first part is hard to read so it may not be correct.
Thanks in advance, this will help get him off my back for a while.

An "RB" engine suffix translates to a '62-'64 passenger car 300HP/327. That block was used in Corvettes during the same time, but not with the RB suffix.

I'm guessing that the G 7 4 block casting date translates as July 7, 1964. (A = January, B = February, etc. )

The partial stamp of F 07 09 would translate as Flint, July 9th, the assembly date, which would "follow" the casting date of July 7.

I personally have no idea on the RB suffix, but others seem to have nailed it.

G 7 4 is July 7, 1964

9F 0 709RB

9 - No idea what this is
F = Flint
07 = July
09 = 9th day
RB = 1962-1964 327, 300hp in a passenger car

Mike,

I've got a copy of the "lime book" - the definitive guide to Chevy engine codes, but I'm on travel until the end of the week. I'll bookmark this thread and reply then, if no one else does before me.

Never mind - I should read the whole thread before responding
