Default Today @ Mecum - Harrisburg

I counted at least 10 C-2's for sale at today's auction. A resto-mod or two and the rest were pretty nice cars. Surprisingly low prices. # 2 condition cars were selling for low 40's- 50's. A few higher priced. I outta know, I was there !!! "Mater" I'm used to the Barrett Jackson auctions, Mecum is a different type of auction. If I was a seller I would prefer Barrett Jackson's . They seems to give the seller more "Block Time" If I'm a buyer I would buy at Mecum.
I bought privately !!!

I agree with that 100%...
Mecum doesn't draw the same type buyer as B.J., it seems to me...mostly bargain hunters.

I don't have the stomach for watching my car cross the block with no reserve.

Neither do I. Get the wrong day/time and you could really take it. Last year at Mecum in Louisville I watched a yellow 67 427 tripower car go thru. It was the second to last car auctioned at the end on the last day. Absolutely beautiful car. 70k is what it hammered at. Luckily he had a reserve.

You can always drop your reserve, but you can not add it!

Another thing about Mecum, and probably the rest. Many of people working the auction are actually volunteers. Talk about a Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn business model.

That yellow 67 I mentioned might be this car that sold for 84k.

I would be curious to hear from somebody that took a good look at this car, description says original drivetrain 435, $84k is an extremely low price. Something must be questionable about this car.

Nor do I...and wouldn't even consider it.
I was under the impression even B.J. had allowed reserves these days...no?

It depends on which B-J auction you are talking about. Only the Scottsdale auction is a no reserve auction.

What is a half million reserve mean?
Many cars cost less than a half million...I'm confused.

the only cars that are allowed to have a reserve are those that BJ values over half million. Anything less than half million sells with no reserve.

The other BJ auctions have the same format except the numbers are quarter million and $100k.

If you simply want to watch, try attending a Russo And Steele auction. It's like attending a pitbull dog-fighting match. Everyone gathers around the action in a circle while wearing gold chains and Ed Hardy sized-medium t-shirts. I think that the terms "throwdown" and "big-boyz and their big-toyz" are used by the announcer.

I know with these auctions you have to look close, but I like this A/C equipped coupe with 1 owner last 47 years for $41500 !

I guess I had seen some expensive cars with the reserve lifted during the sale ...and thought reserves were allowed on anything now.
Thanks for the clarification.

I'm a member of the Manheim chain...and make domestic vehicle auctions frequently. There isn't a 1972 and back Corvette cheap enough for me to list one anywhere without a reserve...and I rarely do it on domestic vehicles. In fact I don't ever remember listing anything without a reserve in 40 plus years...although I have accepted lower bids once in a while during the sale.

Watching Mecum auction and a 63 SWC red with black interior 340hp sold for 125,000.00. It was pretty but would like to know what is under that shiny paint.

A $35,000 Driver!!!

In the Classic Car world you can put makeup on a pig and although still a pig, it will sell on Ebay or at an auction as long as it shines.

What about that car makes it a "$35,000 driver, pig?"

And a black fuelie goes for 127.5. Was that a junker too?
