Default Interior question '66

Hello gentlemen. Two quick questions:

1. Driver seat keeps coming apart at the point you see - can this be repaired by a novice - me?

2. Steering wheel - is this a separation or was there something there that has deteriorated?

Thanks in advance as always!!!

Steering wheel is toast. Cracked and separated. Look for another one or send this one away to get re-done. I haven't had this problem with my seats but I would think that you should be able to crimp the molding together a little at a time to make it bite. Appears that the molding has simply expanded from coming off to many times.

Looks like the typical crack in the steering wheel, nothing was there.

On the seat, from the picture, it looks like the trim piece has popped off the back of the seat.

That top chrom trim is only pinched into the plastic seat back. I would try and put it back on and pinch it tighter

The steering wheel like others said cracked. If your handy you can try a two part epoxy and dye it brown to match and then fill it in and sand it back out. If not look for a good used original They are all the same from 64-66. Or you could just buy a teak wheel

There are steering wheel restorers that can do invisible repairs of far worse defects than your cracked one. No idea how expensive that they are.

To fix the trim on the seat back correctly you will have to remove the seat and the seat back.
Slide the chrome trim back in place. Place a towel on your workbench and carefully tap the chrome trim from the inside crimping it in place.
Roll the plastic seat back as you are tapping the trim. Make sure it is fully pushed onto the seat back. I do it this way all the time.
