[C2] Fuel Injection Conversion
What will be my hurdles to success when converting my carbureted, AC, TI car to fuel injection? I see it mentioned in some FI posts and responses but no details as why the AC causes issues. Do we have a 10 lbs. in a 5lbs basket?
Let me know. All responses welcome. I'll hang up and become a little
wiser to this conversion.
Thanks to all.

Installing the kit was very easy and the FI set up was almost automatic. To do the fuel pump I had to pull the tank modify it and reinstall. a lot of work but it was worth it. You also can buy a FI ready fuel tank that makes it very easy. Also be sure to buy the combo fuel filter regulator about $40 so you can have a very short return line.
I have better idle, cold start, throttle response, fuel economy, as much or more HP and NO FUEL SMELL anymore.

One of the reasons it was never offered to the public was that they did not want you destroying the compressors with the high revs of the FI cars. A warranty claim was not going to be a problem for one car built for a GM executive.
First question is do you have power steering? If you do and plan to keep it you will certainly have to mount the compressor under the alternator on the passenger side or the alternator under the compressor on the passenger side. The challenge is where to mount the compressor, alternator and S tube to the core support. The S tube is predetermined so if you mount the alternator on the passenger side of the engine you are going to have to look the front of the engine over to determine where you can fit and get the proper belt wrap around the compressor pulley. Another option would be to use a 1957 type air cleaner that does not use an S tube or fresh air tube from the core support. In that case you can use the same set up as a 300/350 h.p. car with A/C, and power steering.
If you want to use the factory type air cleaner with S tube it will take custom build compressor bracket and likely an additional pulley. Fortunately today we have the physically smaller an efficient Sanden compressor that will likely fit underslung on the engine. If they were able to do it with the big old A6 compressor back in the day it can certainly be done today. I have a 1966 Charger that I added A/C to it and purchased a underslung (hidden compressor mount) from these people. http://bouchillonperformance.com/inc/sdetail/577 I would contact them. They or anyone building a mount for this application will certainly have specific questions for you. I had to eliminate the factory fuel pump on mine for it to fit.

It looks like this engine still has the rear draft tube hole that is neatly routed into the air cleaner assembly also.
