It's 3707306, which was a one-year-only 1956 Corvette center section casting, used with open-only diffs (no Positraction until 1957, which used a different casting).
The numbers on the master cylinder are good - it should also have a cast iron cap with 5300880 cast in it; if the car was built before January '59, the last three digits of the master cylinder casting number ("022") will be the same size as the first four digits; if it was built after mid-January, those last three digits will be larger than the first four.
John, I have a 59 and would like positraction. Since this is a one year only 56 item, is it something that has any extra value to someone rebuilding a 56? or should I just keep it in mine.
Thanks, Ray
Yes, it should be worth something to someone who's restoring a '56 to "numbers-correct"; after 46 years, many 56's have had the center sections replaced with later Posi pumpkins, and an original '56 unit would be a "find" for some of those guys.
