It's taken me 12 years make it happen. I've been driving the car for ten but with hooker style crap side pipes. I love the look and sound of the real deal.
C2 side pipes/covers are sure good looking. Those guys in the styling department were really kicking butt back then on a lot of things.
Congrats!
Really nothing like them. In fact, that's one thing I love about these cars is the attention to detail with the design of everything on the car - bumpers, grill, lines, wheels, emblems - it's just works.
Saturday at Carlisle I was taking a rest break in the C2 Registry area and I noticed the large number of cars with side pipes. This was looking toward the Corvette America tent. So from my view I would see 15 cars and 3 had exhaust out the back. I noticed the same thing at the 67 display, more than half had side pipes. I thought everyone hated them.
Standard equipment on the cheap cars. This new set was installed prior to a 20+ year nap. Hubcaps were optional ! ( non frosted very nice set in the storage area )
Who is the best source for side pipes and shields?
I am interested in this as well, I would like to convert my 65 coupe to 2.5 rams horns and side exhaust.
I have seen repo covers that are fiberglass are the originals aluminum?
On my '66 coupe I have OEM side exhaust (configured to Hooker Super-Competition "Block Hugger" headers, keeps to outlet close to the rams horn configuration), repro knock-off wheels and goldline tires. One of the reasons that I love these unusual options is that the midyear Sting Ray is one of the few cars produced with these options from the factory. It may be the closest that I can get to owning a '60's Shelby Cobra. Plus I like to have the option of rolling my windows up and locking my doors.
