This may help. http://corvettec3.ca/axle.htm

Appears rear is from a late C3 car............probably 1981-82 model.

The first two letters are your gear code. The numbers are the date of manufacture, but can't tell if 12-8-81 (1982 model) or 1-28-81 (1981 model).

The letters codes should help you decide. Also count the ring and pinion teeth to confirm ratio.

Larry

EDIT: Another possibility is from a 1978-79 car with the first two stamped letters being OH. The last stamped "1" could then refer to the shift. This seems to be the best interpretation. Perhaps others can help. But if you could the teeth that should nail it down, along with the stampings.

Thanks Larry for the reply, this rear is not a 80-82 rear, it is an earlier C2 or C3, I know that the rear ratio is a 3:55 so that isn't the problem, I am just trying to learn what year car it is from & what gears it was born with, also it appears like it may have been stamped over on the 2nd letter.

Looks to me like OH code, 3.55 used in the 78-80 years at least, but I don't think before 78. Maybe Jan 2, 78?

The gears themselves may be dated..........especially the ring gear. It should also show GM part number and gear ratio. Take a close look, as this may help.

My EDIT comments on 78-79 are probably correct then.............as OH shows a 3.55 ratio
