[C2] My Free 63 and how it happened

Safety Car
Between 1963 and 1967, they made 117,964 corvettes. How many are still active on the road? How many have been destroyed? It would stand to reason there is still a good percentage lurking in barns and garages. They're now starting to come out more because those that owned them are starting to, well you know, which leaves their sons or daughters to bring them out and sell them.

Sounds like a great restomod project. With the prices of restomod theses days, coupled with your body an experience and the price you paid, there would be a crapload left on the bone.

Free 63, welcome to the Corvette Forum and congratulations on your acquisition. As you well know, now the real work begins.
You didn't mention if your friends Grandfather is still with us, and hopefully he is. If that's the case perhaps you can keep him involved or updated on the progress. I have no doubt that the look on his face seeing it completed would make the entire project worth the effort. I believe the real joy in owning these old cars is their connection to the people in our lives they provide and the stories that go along with them.
Good luck with the project and do keep us up to date on your progress.

Wow, what a great find! For some who may not believe that someone actually gave him the car, I have a friend whose Dad worked with a guy, and he had a 62 boxtop Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop setting in his garage. The Dad kept after him to buy it, but he would never sell. Said "You don't want that old car, it is noisy, it gets terrible gas mileage, and is hard to keep running". Finally, after a couple of years of nagging at him , the guy gave it to him. A mostly original three deuces FE block 4 speed car. Only 60,000 original miles. So it does happen.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on a terrific project. As has been mentioned, please keep a record of costs and time spent on this project...it will be invaluable to others going forward. Continued posts with pictures will, also, be very much appreciated. Enjoy the journey

You have been blessed with a wonderful starting point.
As someone already stated there are two or three different paths to follow with this car.
Take your time choosing which is best for you.
There is a lot of great information (and opinions) available here on CF.
Good Luck and have FUN.

All the side BS has been cleaned from this thread. Please stick to the topic of the thread and show this member the consideration of not allowing it to get derailed again, thanks.
OP, nice score. Enjoy your build!

Ya I'm just doing my research rite now, I'm going to get the body all 100% first then tackle mechanical stuff.. Is it ever possible to prove it's a 340hp car with no build sheet or original engine?

I didn't know about that.. So with no factory block this car will never be a for sure 340hp car, bummer but its okay..
