Default 62 Temp Gauge

I have research the old threads about my issue. My temp gauge pegs to the hot after the engine warms up. The engine runs normal temps 165-185 when I check it with the IR gun. I have check the wiring on the gauge. I pull the wire off the sensor turn the key on and the gauge goes full cold then I ground the wire to the engine and it goes full hot. I have tried three temp sensors, the one the car came with, then I purchased a new AC DELCO gm# 12334869 and then the auto zone duralast TU-5. All with the same results. I called Mary Jo at vettegal.com and ordered one from her. I am running a Edelbrock 2101 aluminum intake that the temp sensor screws into and I am not using Teflon tape. Will the aluminum intake cause the false indication?

If the sender you ordered from Mary Jo is an old Delco sender made in the 70s & down for GM gauges that might solve your problem. I dont know if she still sells them now. An original sender had a shorter stem than the TU 5 and the bottom was black and had a dimple. When immersed in 180* water the ohm value measured from the tip where the wire attached to the brass case measured between 140 to 130 ohms. The use of an aluminum manifold is a non factor.

I agree, had the same problem until I found an original sender on EBay. Think around $60.
