Trying to fix my inner set of tail lights on 1964 convertible. They currently have incorrect clear lenses installed but the car is not equipped with back-up light option, nor is the neutral safety switch set-up for them. So what is the correct function of the inner set of lights? They are completely dead right now. Should they be just tail lights? Or dual element bulbs for tail lights, brake lights and turn signal? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Correct for a no b/u light car would be a two contact bulb and socket in both outer and inner sockets and tail lights/brake lights/turn signals working on both sets.
If yours is a single contact socket on the inner, you can either change it to dual, or wire the sockets for two tail lights on each side and single brake/turn signals, or you can wire it for single tail lamp and two brake/turn on each side. Your choice.

Thank you! I'm trying to keep it correct as possible, so I'll go with the two contact sockets.
I ran the single filament bulbs on the inners on my 63. Put a red lens on them. Tap your brake/ turn wire on the outer bulbs for power supply. . This way you have two tail lamps on the outer housings. Four brake lights. Two turn signal lights on each side. It is much like a “high” brake light effect in that when you hit the brakes you have all four lights. When you engage turn signal you have two lights on that side.
This topic makes me curious about the C2 cars that were modified to have the third tail lights added on each side.
Did those people wire them so that all 6 tail lights were brake lights and turn signal lights?

Quick answer is YES. Wired so all 6 are brake/flash
