Default Axles?

My car came with a spare set of rear axles that look new and are wrapped in burlap and twine. I don't need them so I want to sell them but first I need to confirm they are what I was told they are.

How many splines should they have if they are 59 corvette axles? What length should they be?

Thanks guys. I want to know what I have when I sell it so I can properly inform a buyer, not just guess.

Hopefully DZAUTO will respond. He pretty much knows all about those C-1 axles.

With that said, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, repeat, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 57 Corvettes WITHOUT, repeat, WITHOUT positraction and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 58-62 Corvettes (with OR without positraction), PLUS, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 57 Chevy passenger cars WITHOUT positraction, and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 58 Chevy passenger cars (with or without positraction), use the same axles. The ONLY, ONLY, ONLY difference between 57 Corvette and 57 Pass car axles and 58-62 Vette and 58 pass car axles is the BEARING. The 57 Vettes/pass cars use a thinner bearing (RW307 series bearing) than what is used on 58 pass/58-62 Vettes (RW607 series bearing).

The 1957 year model WAS THE ONLY, ONLY, ONLY time when there were separate posi and non-posi axles. In 1957, again, ONLY, when either a Corvette or pass car received positraction on the assembly line, did that car receive positraction axles. The axles for posi were 1/8in shorter than non-posi axles.
The question frequently comes up, why did 57 only get shorter axles and NOT 58-later cars? The answer is TOOOOOOOOOOOOO SIMPLE, because in 1958 and later Vettes/cars used the thicker RW607 series bearing, which was 1/8in thicker-----------------thus, no need any longer for 2 separate axles.

ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 55-64 pass car axles and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 56-62 Corvette axles have 17 splines. Thus, all the above mentioned axles will fit into ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 55-64 (pass car or Vette) axle gears in the differential.

VALUE.
Depends on the buyer's needs and the integrity of the seller.
ALWAYS, no matter what it is, if a part is interchangeable between a Corvette and a pass car, the price is always 10 times higher if the buyer/seller says that the part is for a Corvette. For example, if the axle is needed for a NCRS Top Flight fuel injected, heavy duty brake/suspension 62 Corvette, then the price may be $150-300. But if the axle is out of, or needed for, an 1958 beater 4dr Biscayne, then the price may be $10---------------------------AND IT'S THE SAME DAMN AXLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know how to answer your question any better than that.
Thus, bottom line, the price is whatever the market will bear.
I don't know what crawled up your *** but you don't need to be a jerk. You didn't answer My question about length anyway. You did say number of splines so thanks for that. Neither question needed a picture. I asked how many splines and what length they are so I could ID the parts. I didn't ask for an tangent about posi vs non posi or what years of car are the same as C1 axles. I just want to know what I have. They came with the car so for all I know they could be from something different all together.

Anyone know the length they should be so I can check?

By the way. While searching I found the stuff DZ posted so obviously he copy and pastes it because the posi vs non posi thing is asked a lot. I saw that posted a lot. No one actually posts the length of the axle, they just post the difference for 57 and say the axles are the same for passenger cars.

I just want to know what I'm selling. For all I know they could be ford axles. I got them with the car after the owner died so no one knew anything about them.. I didn't ask for pricing or value either. I can find that on eBay.

Sounds like somebody wanting to be honest and accurate, and who admits he does not know everything there is to know. Nothing wrong with that IMHO.

Just curious, but how many splines do your extra axles have? The reason I ask, is that there is a changeover setup to 30 spline that is considerably stronger. (You have to use 8 3/4 guts in the Dana set up.)

They must not be corvette axles. I only count 10 splines.

That appears to be a 49-54 passenger car/53-55 Corvette. That's the only thing I'm aware of which had COARSE splines and a C-clip, or something even older.

Thanks. I bet you're right. In my boxes of parts I found some one year only trim for a 54 bel air. It would make sence he would have more parts for that car.

Not sure of the current length. Very coarse, though.
