Use a piece of all thread to pull it on. We use to drive them on because it was quicker but it's easy to get cocked and bulge out the side. We used at least 30 a week.

Remember to seal the outer OD metal to metal of the seal and cover.

If your timing chain cover took a hit, I suspect it distorted it just enough to cause it to leak. I'd install a new seal with a thin coating of RTV between the seal and timing chain cover to see if it fixes the leak. If your crank shaft has a threaded snout, you'll be able to remove the balancer and replace the front seal without removing the fan, water pump and timing chain cover. I was able to do make this repair over the summer. If your crank snout isn't threaded, it is really difficult if not impossible to reinstall the balancer because you'll have to use a hammer to knock it back on. There simply isn't enough room to swing a hammer without removing radiator shroud and radiator.
