When my father graduated from the Naval Officer Training Program @ the University of Michigan in the Spring of 1941, he quickly received his first assignment as a Lt JG on an LST stationed in Pearl Harbor. Life in Hawaii in the early 40's was pretty boring, so for a little more excitement, my dad would hitch a ride @ once a month on board cargo planes that regularly flew back to San Francisco - quite a party scene on the weekends he used to tell me!
During the late 30's and early 40's, my grandfather was an aeronautical engineer working @ Wright Patterson Air Force base outside of Dayton, OH - my dad's home. Although my grandpa was a "civilian" in the AF during that time - he was apparently one of the highest "ranking" civilians in charge of several military airplane engineering teams.
My dad and grandpa used to communicate weekly via telegram so the folks back home knew where he was and what he was doing at all times. My dad received an urgent telegram on 12/1/41 from his dad instructing him to fly on board one of the supply planes to San Francisco the weekend of 12/6/41. Now you know the rest of the story!

Heck, today’s liberal media doesn’t even show us clips of 9/11 on that anniversary. They want to filter out history that runs contray to their agenda.

Yeah! No flashy news today, I'm just a bit somber because I remember. I wasn't there I wasn't even born yet, but I remember because I was told, and learned about 12/07 41. Chip

Just learned something new today that also happened on Dec 7th. On Dec 7th, 1941 the USS Ward fired the first shot of the war. On Dec 7th 1944 the Ward was hit by a Kamikaze at Leyte and was sunk by our own forces after being abandoned

What was once called "a day that will live in infamy" apparently is no longer.
God bless America.

I regret to say the public high school had a mandatory 10th grade assembly today for a Japanese person who was in an internment camp in CA. He spoke about how bad it was. I am so livid and hope to remove this headmaster. He skipped Veterans Day this year as he says it fell on a Saturday. Last year I was able to get a WWII and Vietnam vet to speak to the school (against his wishes) I am in process of getting this story out to other parents at the school, local vets and some local politicians. Insane.

My Dad turned 17 in late fall of 1944. He quit high school the next day and his parents took him to town and they gave him permission to join the Navy where his two older brothers were already. My Mom was a ship welder during the war.

It was a time when the whole country went to war. From rationed sugar to car companies building ships and airplanes, all contributed to the victory. It's now up to us to pass this memory of sacrifice, dedication, and bravery to our youth. Bless them all.

Yesterday's (December 8, 2017) Boston Globe had 4 prominent and different stories and a bunch of color photographs about Pearl Harbor veterans and a commemorative ceremony on the USS Constitution. This happens every year. The nut case radical right considers the Boston Globe a liberal newspaper.
