I have been looking online for a LoJack and am confuse by all they offer. All I want is a basic system that if my car is stolen it can be located by the police.
A professional thief will have a handheld LoJack jammer for a few hundred dollars and you'll be wasting your money. Blocks GPS trackers and cell phones too.
Joyriders will quickly dump your car after trashing it and prob be gone and on their way before anybody knows different - this happened to member ptjsk's 62.
Buy one if it makes you feel better but don't bank on it 100%
Or just good insurance and you can live without all the doo-dads
I am aware of all the pitfalls.
I have insurance, a kill switch and a fuel cut off so if they get past the kill switch they will run out of fuel shortly and likely abandon the car rather than bring attention to themselves trying to remedy the situation in the middle of the street.
I know there are jammers but often the thieves are not all that sophisticated and the Lojack would locate the car.
I find that Lojack offers one for classics which is self powered and can SUPPOSEDLY be bought directly for self install (probably just a magnetic stick on) but on their website when I click on it, it goes to "find a dealer." I guess I am just going to have to call them. I just thought maybe someone here had experience with this.
Get a battery cutoff and a good alarm system in the garage.
Last October, we had our garage broken into. The person took a bunch of stuff through the bay where the corvette was parked. The person was kind enough to leave the corvette alone. Nice of him eh? This week, he was caught in the neighborhood. Not sure the details but I guess he was riding a bicycle into people's driveways checking whether or not the vehicles were locked up. My neighbor followed him and called the police. The police stopped and arrested him for a parole violation (pepper spray, drugs and knife in possession). The police searched the person's apartment and found several stolen items. Now, the fun part is working with the local officers to sift through the stolen items.
I really do not want much of what was stolen (just a couple of sentimental items). My wife and I just want to put it behind us and move on. Now, the garage is secure with sensors and cameras. Our place is now a secure compound slightly below a fortress. Now, if I can just find the keys to the safe room...

I've installed a GPS tracker called trackimo in several cars lately. it will email or text, has geofences, can show location and speed. pretty funny to get a call from a customer telling you he knows you were out in his car...lol..and how fast you were driving it.
On a recent trip besides a kill switch and disabling the coil packs I did this. Everyone made fun of it but I lived in Memphis and have had enough lessons from car thieves. I said they might get it but they ain't driving it away.
The LoJack is just too expensive for what I am looking for. The only feature they have of any real benefit is that they are tied into law enforcement for recovery. I think I will end up buy just a simple GPS tracking device. There are many out there and a lot of them are designed for vehicle fleet management with monthly fees. I don't need that either. I just need something that will allow me to determine WHERE the car is at any given time so I can report it's location to the police if stolen. I need to find one that I can tie into the cars electrical system for powering it. Lots of them out there to sift thorough. Do any of you have any experience with any like what I need. Tracking your kids or whom ever?
With Lojack don't the responding LEO's have to have a correponding Lojack tracking unit? I think I'd rather have a GPS unit so I can find it myself and let the police do the paperwork.

Most thieves will tow the car, much faster and easier. Motion alarm is best
Yeah, there are many ways to steal a car. Disabling the car from starting it does nothing from keeping them from winching it into a trailer. That is why I am looking for a GPS system to locate it once it is gone.
I would imagine the thieves with trailers are cruising the car shows that draw people from many miles away that are staying over night with the car parked in motel parking lots. I will probably put a motion alarm on as well since it could be many miles away before you wake up and find it gone.
