The emergency brake light doesn’t work, so I think something is wired wrong. There is a tan wire running from the brake switch to the wiring harness, and the dash light wire connects to a capacitor adjacent to the oil pressure gauge. That doesn’t follow the 65 wiring diagram. Can someone tell me where these wire connect?
I’ll try that tomorrow, but does that sound right, the bulb wire connecting to a capacitor? I don’t see how that would work.
The capacitors are for radio noise suppression in radio equipped cars...the capacitor would be to reduce noise and there is usually one at the brake light switch. The radio option section of your AIM will tell you where they all go. At first blush, what you describe doesn't sound right...

Looking at a on-line wiring diagram for a '58-'59 I see a tan wire from the fuse block to the " brake warning light and switch". There are only 2 devices on that tan wire between the fuse block and the dash light. A switch then a flasher. My guess is the flasher is what your calling a capacitor and it's wired in between the switch and the dash light. The part number for the flasher should be listed in the owners manual other wise you need to do a parts search.
The switch is just an On/Off switch and I assume it's mounted on the E-brake mechanism somewhere. To try you only need one of those test lights with a pointed end. Touch one terminal side of the switch and it should light all the time as it's powered from the fuse block. Well the ignition switch needs to be On also (or in accessory). The other side terminal of the switch will only turn on the test light when you operate the E-brake. When you verify power through the switch then look for power on one of the two terminals of the flasher. On side of the flasher needs to be powered/energized/test light On to make the flasher work. Then the other side terminal of the flasher should cycle On & Off. If that side of flasher does cycle and there's no dash light then the dash light is bad.

Thanks for your help on this. I found the problem, aside of the bulb burned out, the switch on the brake rod was sticking. Fixed that with a little wd40. Calling that gizmo a flasher instead of a capacitor makes sense the way it was wired. Anyway, now it works!
