Default Rear window vinyl adhesive

I have a 65 coupe and I'm replacing the vinyl underneath the rear window. What adhesive do you recommend? I tried a spray adhesive (3M Super 77), but I'm not happy with the result. It seems like it's detaching in a few areas.

I haven’t found anything that’s 100% in the Florida heat.

Contact cement on both surfaces will give the strongest bond, but it gets a bit hairy with the positioning! If you've ever laid down formica, you know what I mean...

So I brush contact cement on the body and let it flash off completely.

Then spray 3M Super 90 on the vinyl and wait just a minute or two, then lay it up. You will be able to slide it into position if you're first stab was slightly off.

I like this approach. I'll give it a try!

I agree. I've tried every method I can think of and over time it starts to droop again. I'm all ears...

This stuff is good, if you want to give aerosol solution another try.

I don't think the factory glue worked either. In 67 they didn't install the vinyl. They just painted the bare fiberglass.

As long as all the flying guys are talking, I'll weigh in. I re-did my 64 rear vinyl trim with contact cement brushing on using 2 coats on each side (car and material). The biggest problem is trying to line up the new piece while on your back upside down in the rear area. Measure and mark everything so you know EXACTLY where you want to place the vinyl, because the way I did it, you wont have a second chance. Mark points in the center area and set the middle section first. Use wax paper (or some other barrier) to keep the outside edges from sticking initially, then once the center is stuck, roll out each side from the center outward. A small roller helps. Use extra material for overlap in case you are slightly off so you can trim and it won't show. Lastly, if you thought the original piece looked OK, and you went and did the carpeting and rest of your interior and THEN afterwards decided it no longer did , cover and mask the carpeting VERY well.
In the end, it turned out perfect and has not moved in 3 years so far, proper prep work is key. Pilot Dan

I tried this glue and it did not work.
It is important to get the fiberglass completely clean and dry.
I used contact adhesive and it has held up well for the last two years.

I've had good luck with this in the Florida heat. It won't release like regular contact cement.

Whatever it was, it wasn't very good. Every unrestored mid year coupe I have ever seen has at least the edges curling, and many almost completely fell off at the sides and rear

There are some good suggestions here. 3M spray Super 77 wont do it. I used contact cement like others, and have had decent luck with it holding.
