Little Help With '63 Fan Identification
Asking for some advise/clarification.
I have two fans here. They both have an "H" stamped on the front of them, and the 18" fan also states "Front" on the face of it.
But I have two fans. One's a 17", and one's an 18".
I'm attempting to use the correct one for the '63 restoration. Can anybody tell me which is correct for my application?
Not sure if it makes a difference, but the motor is the "RE" code 340 hp motor.
Thanks,
Pat

Original fans are 17-1/8" and have button head rivets with the buttons facing front - they are gloss black.. Mine has an "H" on it as well. The Judging Guide says its possible, but unlikely some A/C cars may have a different fan -- an 18".... To be safe, I wouldn't throw out that 18" fan, it could turn out to be a rare piece!
The engine size doesn't matter in non A/C cars; all the fans used were identical.
Perhaps the other is a BB fan....I run a later BB fan on my 63 with more blades. 18" and it also has "FRONT" engraved on it. It has a wider bolt pattern to attach to the fan clutch and won't fit an original clutch....so I use a Hayden 2747 heavy duty fan clutch on it.
All of this is to say, you can't possibly go wrong bolting on your 17-1/8" 5 blade fan.
You need to decide if you want a regular fan clutch or a Schwitzer type. Either can be correct. If you have an original then kirkconnell Corvettes in Florida can rebuild it.

The 18" fan is for an ac car, maybe 66/67. It should be slightly over 18". 66/67 ac cars used 2 different fans, one had a part number and the other didn't. it could also be for other GM applications. Some used 7 blade fans for ac (Camaro's).
