It would be very helpful with the identification if you can attach a photo of the stamp pad which is located on the front, upper right side where the block meets the head surface. It is rectangular in shape and approximately three inches long and one inch wide. You will see a series of stampings of letters and numbers, or it could be blank. We look forward to helping you sort it out.

While you are at it you might as well get us the casting date of the block. It is located on the top, rear most portion of the block in the distributor and crank case vent tube. It is a cast and not a stamp and should be a series of letters and numbers.

If the heads are original to the block, it's a 1959 Corvette 283 cu, 245 hp, with 2x4 and attached to either a 3 or 4 speed manual trans. It was built on January 6, 1959.

"F" is the Flint engine plant, "I" is January and "06" is the 6th day of the month. "CT" is the suffix code for the 58-61 283/245 with a manual trans. The "519" block was used from 58-61. The staggered valve cover hole "550" heads, were only used in 58 and early 59. At some point during 59, the staggered hole heads were replaced with heads with straight across holes.

Those heads are dated December 22, 1958 (L 22 8), so they could only have been installed on a 1959 engine.

The engine casting date is located on trans mounting flange, on the right (passenger) side rear of the block. It will be comprised of a letter for the month, one or two numbers for the day, and a single number for the year.

All good. I believe it is a 1959 motor as the 550 heads were used mostly if not exclusively in 1959. 3748770 heads used in 58.
