$1300 Jack
I was watching an auction yesterday on ebay that ended up with a C1 Jack going for over $1300 bucks. I've always heard of the military using scissor jacks and this jack must have been one of them. I think the new owner is going to be very surprised if he figures out the stamping. You can clearly see the top is stamped 1 1/4 ton with what looks like 5MC under that. About a third of the base is tapered towards the jack handle end of the jack also. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-Corvet...119.m1l2649438
You can guarantee that there will soon be a story about how GM cut a deal with the military to supply scissor jacks to their factories for a short time and only a few of these rare, highly-prized jacks are still around...
I wish that I could get myself to part with $1300 for a jack, but for now I will settle for a $15 bottle jack from Harbor Freight.
(I do keep it in the original box though, but I wrap it in an old tee shirt so that no one will see it!)
"A dollar bill in the hand is worth two jacks in the trunk!"
Drove a 1948 Dodge Ton and a quarter (1-1/4) over across the pond (as a Surveying Vehicle). The ARVNs got new 1969 & 1970 vehicles. They wrecked them as fast as Uncle Sam could ship them over.
That jack must have been from our 48. The C-clip in the differential dropped out heading to a fire base to spend the night, I looked in the mirror and the left rear wheel was hanging out about 2 feet. Damn, no brakes. No jack to be found. Two Heuys watched over us while we waited for a hook. An evening to forget.
