I am told that I have a flat lobe on my cam. The cam was installed as part of a 383 instal only a few months ago. I am currently fighting with the engine builder about who is liable for the repair. Is it OK to replace the cam with the engine in the car or is it better to pull the engine?? Where does all the metal from the flattened lobe go and how do I get it out??
Hmmm.... If the engine was bult according to your specifications, then you should be able to get a replacement from the cam company. They have been known to produce some 'duds' from time to time.
However, if the builder offered a 383 package which included the cam, then they have a responsibility to repair and replace at their expense.
Either way you should be covered to some extent... besides there is always Small Claims court. So dig out all your receipts, and take the milage on the engine. Do not be afraid to take'em on in court.
As for replacing the cam, yes it can be done in the car. However, I would also take the pan down and inspect to see what's there. Good luck...
