Default exhaust pipe fitting problems

Forum:

My 66427 has a new set of rear-exit exhausts that fit great on the right but not on the left. The trouble seems to be a misfit between the stock exhaust manifold and the forward pipe. I have been futzing with it for a while and was wondering if anyone has had this problem or can hazard a guess. The pipe in question seems to be off in angle slightly at the manifold and ends up too short as it meets the second section at the frame pass-through. I got the pipes from volunteer, which usually means a good part. I would appreciate any help before I head to the exhaust shop and just get it welded up. It also hangs down too far on the left side.

Agree with TheOman!

Had 3 separate mufflers from MAD that were so far off that they ended up pointing through the side of rear quarter panel. Isn't automation great? - once the machine is set up (wrong), you can turn out thousands of pieces of crap.

I have done extensive business with Volunteer and their customer service has been excellent. I would suggest you call them and explain the problem. Their tech help is impressive also.

Sorry about that but one but the obvious is the obvious is the obvious. I backed off the first "version" but what else could it have been? Like Plasticman said it happened to him three tiems and happened to me once. I called the supplier with my suspicions, they sent another pipe, I compared them and sure as shootin the original "new" pipe was bent wrong. Called em back and they said just throw it away.

I too would suggest there's a slight "bend" problem. I recently did the entire manifold back exhaust on my 57 with all the parts from Paragon and had no problems. However, found it to be very tricky getting everything to line up properly, especially at the rear going through the quarter pannels and out.

Also, since doing mine, after about 6 months I'm finding one pipe, not both, that when heated up expands out the bezel at least a half inch making it look inconsistent with the other side. The other side does not expand at all. Anyone got an idea on this???

I cant help you with advice on the correct pipes but I can say sweat the details and make them perfect.I know when I look at a car that is some of the things I respect most about a car Is how evry thing lines up.

Hey Ih2lose, Ron99966457 and TheOman

Thanks. I think something may be a little odd with my car. I got pipes from two different sources to try and neither fit too well, but one was better than the other so I tweaked it down at the local Midas shop (helpful people, didn't even want to charge me)and I used it. The pipes do now look straight. My car is low, so I really had to assure a good fit underneath with nothing hanging down too far, bot h for looks and clearance.
Anyway, thanks again.
